Throughout every stage of life, routine annual exams are an important part of women’s health. Issues are addressed ranging from birth control options to symptoms of menopause. Screening for cervical, ovarian, uterine, breast and colon cancer is an important part of preventative medicine, as well as screening for sexually transmitted infections, osteoporosis and other medical issues.
Breast and pelvic exams are an important part of a woman’s health care, whether as part of a routine annual exam or when evaluating specific symptoms.
Pap tests involve collecting cells from the cervix to determine if abnormalities are present which could lead to cervical cancer. For the HPV test, the cell sample is tested for the presence of high-risk types of HPV (human papilloma virus) which can lead to cervical cancer. For many women, this screening is no longer performed every year, but women should still schedule yearly exams. Your provider will discuss with you when you should schedule your next Pap smear.
Screening for STIs (sexually transmitted infections/diseases) can help women and their partners stay healthy and prevent long-term issues like infertility and other complications. We treat these conditions and also offer counseling to help prevent or to understand the implications of a diagnosis.
We offer Gardasil, a vaccination that helps protect from the strains of HPV (human papilloma virus) and more than 96% of HPV diseases.
3D Mammograms can detect 20-65% more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D alone. This state-of-the-art technology is approved by the FDA, and allows the radiologist to see breast tissue layer by layer. The procedure is the same as a 2D mammogram, but results in roughly 40% fewer follow-up appointments. We offer 3D mammogram services at our Dupont Road and Lutheran Hospital locations.
