Dr. Coats moved to Ft. Wayne in 1978 after receiving his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and his residency training at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis He has been board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1980. Dr. Coats' special interests are vaginal and reconstructive pelvic surgery, infertility and menopause management.
Dr. Coats has served as President of Indiana State ACOG (2003 - 2006), was the first President of the Medical Staff of Dupont Hospital (2002 - 2003), has been an Associate Clinical Professor at Indiana University for more than 20 years, and still enjoys teaching medical students and residents. He has reviewed and judged IU School of Medicine OB-GYNresident clinical research papers both in 2003 and 2010. He also has enjoyed speaking to physicians, presenting at hospital grand rounds, and training physicians overseas on the current surgical procedures and practice trends in obstetrics and gynecology for the past three decades. He continues teaching OB-GYN surgeons at Dupont Hospital's sister hospital in Bulgaria. Dr. Coats states, "After practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Fort Wayne, for 30 years, I still get excited each day serving my patients. Dr. Coats sees gynecological patients only and has office hours at the West Jefferson and Dupont locations.
